My thoughts on Fedora are many. I have been using Red Hat Distro’s for a long time now. I started with Fedora 2 on this same computer back when it was released in May of 2004, at that time I wasn’t really familiar with Linux and had many problems adjusting to the way that things operated. At that time I didn’t really see any reason to use anything other than Windows. Linux with it’s package management was too hard at the time for me to get anything done. I had problems installing and getting basic things to work. Also at that time I had no idea how to download source code or how to even go about trying to compile and install it. Within the last year though there have been many improvements and we are now beginning to see the maturity of Linux coming out. Fedora 8 in my opinion is the best yet, it has all the bells and whistles that Fedora is known for. With the inclusion of all sorts of programs from banking, word processing, databases, chat, and internet programs to tools that will enhance your desktop experience. Package management is still done through yum using repositories which for those of you that don’t know is very similar to apt. With the new release codenamed “Werewolf” there are many packages that make it into the Fedora supported repository. Fedora keeping with their release schedule and releasing something new to the community every 6 months is a nice change of pace in the wake of “Vista”.
