Blogs that piss me off

I have been around SU for a long time. Although it might not look it since I have had 3 or more accounts, I have been here since soon after the beginning. I was randomly one day looking through plugins for Firefox and came accross something that gave said that it would take me to random places on the internet. I will tell you that it has taken me to tons of random places on the internet throughout the last few years. I personally didn’t really get into SU until I realized that I could send Photos to my SU page. Yeah that is a DUH moment there but at least I know that I can do it. Now I probably have seen about 30,000 or more pages, some I like, others I don’t.

There are all sorts of things that piss me off about other bloggers really.

  • Site looks too pretty to be useful
  • Pictures of people make them look like pedophiles, raging lesbians, or sometimes both.
  • Blogging about blogging. Yeah sometimes they give you 5 good ideas for posts, other times it’s like some filler. If everyone is doing it things loose all substance and meaning.
  • SEO optimization tips. Personally I feel that 1 article on this subject is more than enough. We all know that being ready to be DDoS hit by Google, Yahoo, Ask, Windows Live Search, Technorati, and many others is the way of the future. There is no need to split hairs and offer the same words in other context to people.
  • Posting inspirational pictures with “funny” slogans on them. Well I can say that this is getting pretty old, we all have seen a plethora of them, I don’t think that we need to see anymore.
  • I CAN HAS. Just stop it with this one, it was almost funny back a year ago and has since lost its charm.

On another note I can come up with one site that I personally hate the most. This site is so absurd and useless that I can hardly understand it’s existence other than people don’t have patience to search for an answer themselves, the site is experts-exchange.com if you ever search for something and see that there is this aforementioned URL in the address bar, know that you will not find any information to help solve your problem unless you agree to pay for said information. If they really where experts they would know that people aren’t going to pay to get an answer when they can do a search or ask someone they know for advice, and this coming from a site that used to be spelled expersexchange.com. Still don’t get it [expert sex change . com].

Anyway moving along now, you can take what you will from this post and perhaps use it in everyday life.

***Update***  A blog that I once left a comment on now has a shit load of crap about how no one likes the author, it’s actually pretty damned funny that they are so insecure that they feel a need to post blogs about bad reviews. I personally might take that as a sign to improve my writing or something.

Quest for Top Stumbler

Hey all, it’s me Travo, yeah you know you want to know how I got to be a top stumbler don’t you. Well I will tell you about this journey.

Since I have been on SU for awhile now, about 3 years now on and off, I have seen many people that have rated more sites than anyone else. I wondered how they did it. Finally I figured that they had to be using a script as there is not one single way that any one person can rate 166,000 sites ever [kancerman = 166,507 pages, starspirit = 142,579 pages, and premo1 = 140,245 pages]. Now when you do the math that’s about 450 sites a day, every day for a year. Now either you are using a script or you are just thumbs upping every page that you come across. If you take that 450 sites and divide it by 24 that’s only about 19 sites an hour excluding sleep time. If you include working and sleeping combinded at 12 hours you would get a number at about 38 sites an hour at that point being about 1 site every 1.57 minutes, hardly enough time to actually take a look at a site. Now when you start getting into more calculations about time spent away from the computeryou will see that this can not be done at all in any way unless you automate the entire process. Also since the last time I looked at kancermans site he was sitting at about 157,000 and that was less than a week ago 11/25/2007.

So knowing that there is no way that anyone person could do anything of this sort alone I am on my journey to get into the top 100 of SU.

days I have been leaving my computer running with a script that automatically thumbs ups and keeps stumbling on an endless loop. Before this journey I had rated 3,600 sites and had 6 fans.

Well after this little expedition in Stumble I decided to close the account and have found that rather than getting to top stumbler, the ranking system and network would not allow me to rank any more websites at times. I do know that I did have a script running so it isn’t a problem. I did however find out that stumble has a lot of duplicate content that doesn’t need to be viewed more than once in a lifetime. Rather than getting new and interesting stumbles I was getting the same old shit over and over and over again.

So to anyone out there that thinks that stumble is so great, it is at first, but once you hit a certain spot all original content seems to disappear and all you are left with is what used to be fun and interesting.

All in all Stumble Upon is really a waste of time that will get you nowhere but is fun to do if you like spinning your wheels in the mud from time to time.

So this goes out to all you stumblers, please if you see something that is something that you have already seen go ahead and thumbs down it, or report it as duplicate content. SU is a community that needs it’s watch dogs just like anything else in the world, don’t feel bad. Remove the crap and get on with your day.

Thanks for your understanding and have a great SU day.
