As news to me DD-WRT version 23 release candidate 5 was released on 11/22/07.
From a brief use of the new firmware I can say that I am happy to say that the PPPOE now finally works. It has been a long time in the works and there is still a lot of bugs that need to be ironed out before anything will come of it for a production environment. All in all the firmware appears to have a finished look and the new bandwidth meter is a nice touch.
Some of the minor bugs I came across are
- PPPOE doesn’t like to connect when the router or network has a name
- Port forwarding doesn’t work all the time
- Bandwidth meter doesn’t display correct information in the LAN section
- Wireless security section at times doesn’t accept modification
From what I can tell the firmware is nearing completion and should be complete probably sometime withing the next 2 months or so, although that statement is just speculation and is subject to change.
While I had the firmware working it was fast and reposnsive even with all the new features crammed into it. With the next few releases we should start seeing a finalized product that is ready for a production environment. All in all DD-WRT is a great facelift for the WRT and the like wireless routers out there.
Support has been added to use the new WRT V7 and V8 routers with DDWRT. It’s a nice addition to the expanded functionality of all the WRT routers.
